Melinda Stenberg, MA, MS

Psychological Assistant

Melinda Stenberg has 16 years of experience working with individuals with special needs and their families as a State of California certified special education specialist. Melinda has worked in a variety of schools in San Diego. She currently works as a Psychological Assistant (intern psychologist) for Scherry Messic, Ph.D. in Chula Vista.

Melinda holds an M.S. in Special Education and an M.A. in Counseling Psychology. She is currently enrolled as a doctoral student at Southern California Seminary, pursuing licensure as a Clinical Psychologist, and as a chaplain.

Melinda’s counseling experience includes Welcome Home Ministries, where she counseled women in transition from their time of incarceration to “the outside,” with healthier, happier and more successful lifestyles. At Set Free Ministries, Melinda worked with both men and women dealing with a wide range of issues; substance abuse, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders, domestic violence, schizophrenia and other serious mental illnesses.

Melinda’s clients get two for the price of one! California regulations require psychological assistants accrue 3000 hours of supervised counseling experience before being eligible for licensure. Melinda’s clients sign a release permitting her to discuss her sessions in confidential supervision with Scherry Messic, Ph.D. Therefore, clients not only benefit from Melinda’s application of the most thoroughly researched and approved counseling techniques currently being taught in major universities, they also receive the benefit of Dr. Messic’s extensive experience!

Melinda is a member of California Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT), the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC), Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS), the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), and Toastmasters International.

Born with a serious birth defect, Melinda has both personal and professional knowledge and understanding of the issues of individuals with special needs, as well as that of their families. Contact Melinda for an appointments, speaking engagement, or questions by calling
